Estimate adult canine weight and growth milestones based on age in weeks

How Puppy Weight Calculator Works

Adult Weight = Current Weight in lbs ÷ Growth Percentage at Current Age

Puppies grow at different rates depending on breed size. Small and toy breeds reach adult weight between 9 and 12 months, medium breeds between 12 and 14 months, large breeds between 14 and 18 months, and giant breeds between 18 and 24 months. By dividing current weight by the expected percentage of adult weight achieved at that week of age, the calculator forecasts adult weight accurately.

Frequently Asked Questions

At what age do puppies stop growing?
Toy and small breeds stop growing around 9 to 12 months. Medium breeds reach adult size around 12 to 14 months, while large and giant breeds continue filling out until 18 to 24 months.
How accurate is the puppy weight calculator?
Veterinary growth curve formulas provide an accurate estimate within 5 to 10 percent for purebred puppies. Mixed-breed puppies may exhibit greater variation depending on genetic inheritance.
Can I use the double at 16 weeks rule?
For medium and large breed dogs, doubling their weight at 16 weeks provides a useful quick rule of thumb. For toy and small breeds, adult weight is closer to doubling at 12 weeks.
What should I do if my puppy is growing too fast?
Rapid growth in large and giant breed puppies can strain developing joints and bones. Consult your veterinarian about large-breed puppy food with controlled calcium and caloric density.
